The Adventure of Book Edits
The edits have arrived from my editor for the 3rd book in the Cadence of Grace series. Edits are often quite an experience for any writer and for me, they’re always a challenge both emotional and mental, but always…the results are SO worth it! As usual, both my editor and I want you all to get the best book possible to end this series, which means I’ll be hanging out with these pages for the next 5 or so weeks: I’m thankful for the support and encouragement of friends and family (and for the existence of tea and chocolate) :D And chick flicks for when I need a...
Read MoreBook Releases, Writer’s Conferences and Friends
I know that’s a lot to pack into one post but that’s what the last two weeks have been filled with! Let’s start at the beginning. Book Releases. Wow. It’s been AMAZING! We kicked off the release of BE STILL MY SOUL with a book launch party that was so much fun. I posted a bunch of pictures on my Facebook page, and if you get my newsletter there will be more! Thank you to all the fabulous bloggers, writers and just plain ‘ol friends who’ve hosted me this month. It’s been a blast!! This last weekend was our local writer’s conference in San...
Read MoreRomance and Rocky Roads ~ Guest Post by Keli Gwyn
It is my absolute pleasure to have Keli Gwyn visiting today. If you haven’t had the chance to visit Keli via her website, sit in her parlor, sip a cup of tea and get acquainted with Keli and her lovely debut, A Bride Opens Shop in El Dorado, California, you won’t be sorry you called. And I just have to add, that when Keli sent over her guest post and I read that she had included her thoughts on Be Still My Soul, I was touched to the bottom of my heart. That’s just the kind of lady that Keli is. It is my prayer that her heartfelt words offer you hope and...
Read MoreCritique Partner Appreciation Week!
Critique partners. Almost every writer has one. Which is why we’re gonna celebrate. And give away prizes! Critique partners…they’re what help turn our rough drafts into polished versions. Our boring plot threads into a page turner. A cardboard character into one a reader can totally relate to. They’re what turn phrases like this: “He circled like a dog before sitting.” to this: “He sat.” GENIUS. Yes, my critique partners have their work cut out for them. And right now they’re totally rolling because they remember that sentence in my...
Read MoreAuthor interview with Dani Pettrey
Today I have the pleasure of interviewing Dani Pettrey. She is the author of The Alaskan Courage series and her first book, Submerged (Bethany House, 2012) is a romantic suspense set in the coastal town of Yancey Alaska and recently garnered 4 1/2 stars from Romantic Times. So let’s dive right in! 1. Dani, what interesting facts about the way you write or research might surprise readers? I write all my first drafts longhand. I know it’s unusual in this day of technology but put me in front of a computer screen for a first draft and I freeze up. There’s something...
Read MoreAn Afternoon With Young Writers
I had the privilege of doing a writing workshop with a group of homeschooled girls a few weeks ago. We met at a gorgeous park, had a picnic and had a blast talking writing. I asked them to come with their writing notebooks so I could learn more about what they’d been up to. Talk about a group of talented young writers! It was so much fun to read their words. I was trying to think of a writing-related activity that would be fun for a group of kids so I put together a character worksheet with plenty of copies for taking home and we did it as a group. Here’s a little about...
